In the leadup to the holiday season, we often take a moment or two to look back on the year, to take stock and to take a deep breath before turning our attention to the ever approaching future. And while I was thinking about highlighting some of the best posts that I have read this year – I thought I might ask YOU.
Tell me, what was YOUR best post of the year? I don’t mean something you read – but something that you wrote. Go on, don’t be shy. Did you write something that you loved? What was so special about it? And what did your readers think?
You can either drop me an email with a link and an explanation or include it in the comments below. I will publish a full list early in the new year.
Oddly, enough, Gavin, I think it was the one I put the least forethought into: http://bit.ly/toanewmarine. The response was amazing and very touching.
I think I liked my Social Media Ostriches post the best. Got a lot of feedback from people who work at companies that block sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Looking forward to the list!

I actually have two – but both were such cataclysmic events for me it’s hard to distinguish:
The 1st: “The Week the World Ceased to Exist” http://bit.ly/7UBjUy
The 2nd: “Out of Office” (the day after) http://bit.ly/6lTvQ1
I liked the idea, Gavin.
I particularly liked “Connecting the dots”, which is about the importance of understanding and following our own intuition.
It’s nothing much, but it’s mine, and I feel good about having written it. It’s here: http://bit.ly/connectingthedots
Thanks!
I’m going to cheat, I have 3:

http://thelostjacket.com/marketing/downside-provocative
http://thelostjacket.com/branding/public-relations-content-stupid
(Each one for a different reason.)
My best was the one that got some reaction from the Pioneer Press http://sorenson.blogspot.com/2009/10/myth-of-low-grocery-prices.html sure, my part got cut from the print story but they still noticed.
It must have been this recent post http://bunnehmunches.blogspot.com/2009/12/stop.html because it describes exactly how I felt at that moment it happened after being overly stressed with work & recently losing a baby.
When I was writing it the words just flowed uncontrollably. It was probably the most honest thing I have ever written.
Would have to be theMan Week post that I did.
Not only was it Gavin that originally prompted me to consider writing a post, but having it end up in the Perfect Gift for a Man book would have to make it the best post for the year for me:

Cool idea, Gavin.
My best post of 2009:
A Life Changed
http://dailysense.com/2009/07/13/a-life-changed/
I will put forward my best post with the least views. Maybe I am just vain – or it proves how stupid I am, but I thought this was worth a chat…

Being a newbie blogger, I was particularly pleased with the comments and positive reactions to one of my first posts about my own hard earned start-up experiences:
http://anthillonline.com/the-top-10-lessons-i-learnt-when-my-company-collapsed/
Considerieng I am very new to all of this, I think is possibly my best post of the last couple of months. Lessons learnt the hard way and tennage attitude –http://itaintalwaysso.blogspot.com/2009/10/children-roos-seatbelts-and-windscreens.html
I want to know yours, Gavin. What you think is the best one? I have an idea for you.
It’s hard for me to choose. I think I’d say this recent one about content curation http://blog.digitalingredients.co.uk/2009/12/curate-content-to-build-value.html (in general I like posts that try outlining patterns).
This post on why public relations is such an inspiring discipline to work in and how it benefits society: http://craigpearce.info/?p=125
Gotta go with this one: http://insightsandingenuity.com/2009/10/28/order-up-ill-take-some-fans-with-a-side-of-followers/
Neat idea, thanks, makes a very interesting read too. I can’t help it, I have two:
1. 10 Lessons Learned in 22 Years of Bootstrapping:

2. 10 tips to save your life from your business:

Since no one else is following the rules:
Here are my TWO favorites from this year (and there’s still two weeks left!)
Is Your Boss a Vampire

Wanted: Digital Storytellers
http://digitalstrategy.typepad.com/digital_strategy/2009/08/wanted-digital-storytellers.htmlwanted-digital-storytellers.html
I don’t know if best is the right word but “Remember Ruby” http://mab397.wordpress.com/2009/10/13/ruby/ was a product of much thought and consideration and still gives me cause to stop and just think. As I tried to construct sentences I found myself trying to balance my thoughts with some resemblance of a point while trying to be respectful to a girl I’d never met.
Incidentally it has also received more than triple the traffic any other post of mine ever has. It reached outside our little “echo chamber” and was shared with no agenda other than sharing a story. There was no subtext or concept of link love – just a story told through social media.
Hi Gavin,
Nice idea. Will you be nominating one of yours too?
I have no idea about best or not but I probably most enjoyed writing this attempt to capture my relationship with the ocean:
http://leohillary.wordpress.com/2009/09/23/in-your-place/
It seemed to get it right for me and a few people liked it too.
This ‘7 ways Tim Burton’s Batman changed the movie industry’ essay got a gazillion hits and responses from my various outlets. It’s also my favorite thing that I wrote this year.

Hi Gavin,
I liked the posts that happened on Wonderwebby as a result of spontaneous, serendipitous shared moments.
Like this one http://blog.wonderwebby.com/2009/07/29/outside-the-lines/
But of course my heartfelt favourite was this one http://awomansinvestment.blogspot.com/2009/09/happy-story-about-12-women-their.html. It wouldn’t have happened if there weren’t so many creative and kind people to help raise the money online for women in poverty. And it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t start blogging in the first place 🙂
